Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A special lecture on “Contemporary Urdu Literature: Issues and Trends” was organised at Dr Rafiq Zakaria College for Women on Tuesday under the auspices of the Urdu Board as part of the 90th birth anniversary of Padmashree Fatma Rafiq Zakaria.

Principal Dr Maqdoom Farooqui said, “Dr Rafiq Zakaria and Madam Fatma Zakaria provided a platform for affordable quality education and for the development of language and literature.” The programme aimed at encouraging literary awareness and critical thinking among students and lovers of the Urdu language.

Renowned scholar Dr Hameed Khan elaborated on the contemporary challenges faced by the Urdu language in the modern era. He highlighted issues such as declining reading habits, the impact of technology, and the need for academic research and creative writing to sustain the richness of Urdu literature. He urged students to actively engage in literary activities and contribute to the growth of the language. Dignitaries from the different fields were present.
