A high-speed car transporting smuggled animals crashed after attempting to evade police and cow protection officers. The smugglers tried to break through a road blockade, but lost control at high speed, crashing into a fork. Two animals were inside the vehicle, and all three smugglers sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred around 5 am on Friday, between Santaji Chowki and Mahanubhav Ashram Chowk.

The accused have been identified as Amjad Qureshi (Padgaon), Azhar Qureshi (35, Paithan Gate), and Mosin Shaikh (Shahanurmiya Dargah area). According to police, police sub-inspector Devchand Bramhnath and colleagues were conducting a checkpoint at Santaji Chowki on Paithan Road on the night of 23 January. At 5 am, they signaled a speeding car to stop, but the driver ignored the order. Another car followed at the same speed. Suspecting illegal activity, Bramhnath immediately pursued both vehicles in a government vehicle. Upon reaching Mahanubhav Ashram Chowk, one car crashed at a fork.

Cruel Smuggling of Animals

Inside the crashed car, one animal was tied behind the driver’s seat and another in the boot. The smugglers Amjad Qureshi, Azhar Altaf Qureshi, and Mosin Shaikh were removed from the vehicle by police. Cow protection officers Ganesh Shelke, Sujit Rajput, and Amit Singh were also present during the pursuit. The accused confessed to bringing the animals from Shevgaon to the city for illegal slaughter. Amjad Qureshi was seriously injured and admitted to hospital. The other two were taken into custody, and a case was registered at Satara police station. Police sub inspector Dilip Bachate is conducting further investigation.
