Despite clear regulations, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) drivers and conductors continue to report for duty without wearing uniforms, ID cards, badges, or nameplates leading to confusion among passengers and raising concerns about accountability.
While MSRTC has repeatedly instructed staff to comply with uniform regulations, violations remain rampant. Officials have warned that disciplinary action will be taken against those failing to adhere to the dress code, but the problem persists across multiple depots. MSRTC mandates that all drivers and conductors wear full uniforms while on duty. However, many employees either skip wearing them entirely or fail to display their badges and nameplates.
The district has 820 drivers, 749 conductors, and 298 staff members handling both roles. While some follow the dress code, a significant number continue to flout the rules, prompting concerns from passengers and authorities alike.

Warnings & penalties: authorities take action
Depot officials and senior MSRTC officers conduct regular inspections and issue reminders about uniform compliance. Violators are subject to fines imposed by route inspection teams.
"According to the rules, all drivers and conductors must wear uniforms while on duty. Those failing to comply will be fined," said Divisional Transport Officer Santosh Ghane.
Despite these measures, non-compliance remains a persistent issue, raising questions about enforcement and the willingness of employees to follow regulations. With rising concerns over passenger safety and identification, stricter action may be inevitable.
