Aurangabad, Oct 28:

Officials of the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) department on Wednesday conducted a survey of four shops in Old Mondha. The traders were outraged by the action.

There are 120 wholesale and retail grocery stores in Mondha. With Diwali just around the corner, customers are flocking to buy essentials. On Wednesday afternoon, a team of SGST officials suddenly started a survey in four shops including Abhay Trading, Tirthankar Trading, Deep and Kanti Trading. These traders were suspected of evading GST. Four officers were scrutinizing the inflows and outflows registers of the shop, the goods, bills and bank accounts. The sale of goods in those four shops was closed till evening. The traders were answering the question asked by the officials. The investigation continued till evening. However, the rest of the traders were outraged by the action. The traders said that the business was already hampered due to coronavirus. Somehow the business is on track due to the Diwali festival. Such action affects customers. Action should have been taken after Diwali. Likewise, the GST officials said that an investigation is still ongoing, and the amount of tax evasion will be known after the search is complete.
