A student who went swimming in the Khavdya Lake in Tisgaon drowned on Sunday evening. The deceased student has been identified as Ved Santosh Ashtekar (15, resident of Tarangan City, Padegaon). He was studying in class 10.

According to the information received, Ved Ashtekar and his friend had come to Tisgaon from Padegaon on a bicycle at around 6 pm. When both of them went down to the Khavdya lake for a swim, Ved went into the deep water not being aware of the water level and started drowning. His friend tried to save him, but he failed. After that, he shouted and called the surrounding citizens for help, but by then Ved had drowned in the water.

Upon receiving the information about this incident, Balu Devbawne, an employee of Waluj MIDC police station, rushed to the spot. He immediately informed the fire department and began a search operation and helped the firemen. A team from Kanchanwadi Sub-Fire Station reached the spot and conducted a search operation. The boy was pulled out of the lake unconscious at around 7 pm. After that, he was immediately shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance; however, the doctors declared him dead after examining him.
