Aurangabad, Nov 18:

With friends'' help, a debt-ridden student stole jewellery and cash, amounting Rs 1.75 lakh from his own home at Renukanagar, Garkheda area on November 15, to repay his loans.

The Pundliknagar police have arrested the student Dinesh Devidas Shinde and his friends Sumit Gulabrao Prasad and Krishna Sahebrao Laghane (Renukanagar). Dinesh is an engineering student, while Sumit is pursuing B.Sc.

Police said Usha Devidas Shinde, a resident of Renukanagar, and her husband had gone to their native place at Shindephal (Sillod), and their son Dinesh was alone in the house. On November 15, Dinesh also went to the village in the afternoon. At around 10.30 pm, Shinde’s tenant, Ravi Bankar called Shinde and told him that the door of their house was open. When the Usha Shinde and Dinesh reached home found that the lock was broken and the articles were scattered all around in the house. Usha had hide jewelry and cash, all amounting Rs 1.85 lakh were also missing. Usha lodged a complaint at Pundliknagar police station, next day.

ASI, Ghansham Sonawane, PSI Raosaheb Muley, Hawaldar Ramesh Sangle, Balaram Chaure, Shivaji Gaikwad, Ravi Jadhav, Rajesh Yadmal and others went and inspected the spot. During investigating, it was found that Usha’s son Dinesh was an addict and was debt-ridden. Police on suspicion took him in custody and during interrogation, he confessed that he had stolen the jewelry and cash with the help of his friends Sumit and Krishna to repay the loans he had taken. Both of them were also arrested. They told the police that they had kept the jewelry in a finance company and took a loan of Rs 85,000. The police recovered Rs 65,000 from Krishan’s house.

Police found that the lock of the gate was missing, and there were no signs of breaking the lock. Hence, they got suspicious. Usha had kept a cloth bag containing jewellery and cash in a pillow and kept it in an iron drum. Thus, the police were suspicious that the thief knew about the jewellery and cash.
