Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Subhedari rest house at Labour Colony, under the Public Works Department, is set for a major revamp. With rising investment and an increasing number of VIP visitors, plans are underway to construct new buildings. A survey of the six-decade-old structures, now in a dilapidated condition, has been completed, highlighting construction of new VIP suites, upgrading old buildings, cost estimates, and optimum use of space without tree cutting.

Last week, Public Works minister Shivendraraje Bhonsle directed chief engineer Atul Chavan and superintending engineer S.S. Bhagat to proceed with plans. Executive engineer Sheshrao Chavan has completed a survey of the existing buildings spread across 30,000 sq ft.

Built during the Nizam era, the Subhedari rest house derives its name from ‘Subedar’ (divisional head) who resided there. It has hosted key political meetings and continues to accommodate chief ministers, ministers and VVIPs.

Of the 45 suites, nearly half are unusable. A proposal is being prepared to construct new VVIP suites under a greenfield plan, with design and estimates expected within a month.
