Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Municipal Commissioner Amol Yedge on Tuesday directed officials to remove all encroachments in the Sukhna riverbed, from the wall of Chikalthana Airport to the far end of Naregaon, before the onset of the monsoon. He also instructed that these encroachments be cleared after demarcating the Red line and Blue line within the riverbed.

At 7 am, the civic chief inspected the riverbed along with officials. Present on the occasion were city engineer Sanjay Kombade, deputy commissioners Nandkishor Bhombe and Savita Sonawane, and chief garden officer Vijay Patil.

Over the past four days, the municipal corporation has demolished 108 encroachments in the riverbed. Stone pitching work is also underway on both sides of the river. The Commissioner reviewed these works and suggested that an attractive garden be developed along one side of the riverbed. He further instructed that dense tree plantation should begin from June 5, including planting various types of bamboo.

He also noted that some companies have been discharging polluted water into the Sukhna river and directed that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) be informed to ensure this is stopped. The companies concerned must install their own sewage treatment plants (STPs), he added.

Permanent market structures at Chikalthana

– A weekly market is held at Chikalthana. After reviewing the available facilities, the Commissioner suggested developing a permanent market with constructed stalls at the site. He directed the city engineer to prepare and submit a plan with a weekly market on one side and a permanent vegetable market on the other.

– He also ordered the removal of all encroachments in the green belt opposite Dhoot Hospital.

– During the inspection, the civic chief reached Mahavir Chowk and noted exhibition stalls set up at certain locations along Jalna Road, instructing that they be removed.

– He visited the statue of Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj at Mill Corner and directed that all statues in the city be cleaned at least once every eight days.
