Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a shocking incident, a married woman from Misarwadi was taken to a fake Baba (godman) under the pretext of getting a new Aadhaar card made, where she was subjected to bizarre rituals.
She was told that she was suffering from 'ghost possession.'
Based on her complaint, a case was registered at Cidco Police Station on Saturday against her husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and the self-styled baba under the Anti-Superstition Act, completely exposing the in-laws' deception.
Cidco Police arrested brother-in-law Shaikh Harun and fraudulent Baba Ashpak alias Ashok Jadhav, who were remanded to police custody until April 9, as confirmed by Police Inspector Atul Yerme.
The husband and mother-in-law remained absconding.
As per the 20-year-old victim's complaint, her husband, Shaikh Irfan, took her out of the house under the pretext of getting an Aadhaar card made on March 28, accompanied by her mother-in-law, Zakira Shaikh Fakir Mohammad and brother-in-law Shaikh Harun.
Instead of an Aadhaar centre, they took her to a dargah in Misarwadi. When she questioned this, the mother-in-law claimed she was ‘affected by an outside ghost’ and they had gone there to remove it.
Inside the Dargah, Ashpak made her smell some medicine, lit incense sticks, and began muttering. The mother-in-law then let the victim's hair loose, began slapping her and forcibly pressured her to run around as if possessed. The victim has no memory of what followed. Upon regaining consciousness and receiving no satisfactory answers, she went directly to the Cidco Police Station.

Harun recorded the entire incident and sent it to the victim's brother. Deeply disturbed, her family confronted the in-laws, who arrogantly declared they would not keep her and threw her out of the house. Further investigation is being handled by Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Gaikwad.
