Aurangabad, Jan 6:

Nearly all types of surgeries and operations that were postponed due to Covid-19 have resumed in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). However, the number of surgeries is still less than half. The administration has clarified that the number of people coming to the GMCH for treatment and surgeries is still low.

First Covid-19 patient was found in the city on March 15. It was then decided to treat critically ill corona patients in the GMCH. As the number of corona patients increased, the treatment-surgeries were postponed. The outpatient department services were also closed. However, only the emergency treatment-surgeries were performed, but their proportions were also lower than at other times. Meanwhile, the proportion of corona patients decreased in the past few months. Hence the administration decided to start surgeries from December. At present, daily OPD-IPD services have been introduced, but the number of patients and surgeries is less than half. Before covid, more than 50 major and minor surgeries were performed daily in the GMCH. But now the hospital is performing about 10 to 15 surgeries a day.
