Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A suspended police constable from the district police force posed as a PSI, vandalised a construction businessman's car and threatened to kill him at Garkheda, at 9 pm, on Sunday.

The accused also snatched Rs 40,000 (online), a gold chain and a mobile phone. The accused even went as far as threatening to kill the businessman's wife if she was seen in the city again. A case was registered at Jawaharnagar Police Station on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Vishnu Suresh Nangude alias Vishnu Patil (28) and his driver Ramesh Rawsaheb Shinde, both of whom have been arrested. Madhur Chitte, a builder from Latur, also resides in the city for business purposes. His wife is a doctor at a hospital. He returned to the city from Latur along with his wife on April 19.

While driving home via Sevenhills Road towards Garkhed at 9 PM, Nangude suddenly stopped his car in front of them, causing Chitte's car to lightly bump into it from behind. Since his wife needed to get to the hospital, Chitte gave his mobile number and assured full compensation for any damage. However, the accused followed them and blocked them in Garkhed. They tried to assault him by reaching through the car window, kicking the car, and snatching his gold chain and mobile phone.

Accused Vishnu Nangude is a suspended constable of the district police force. While threatening Chitte, he said, "I am a PSI, don't you know me? Don't roam alone in the city, otherwise I'll kill you," and smashed the car's mirrors.

This left the Chitte couple terrified. While Chitte was trying to reason with them, the accused demanded money in exchange for returning the gold chain and mobile, and extorted Rs 40,000. Other bystanders who tried to intervene were also threatened by the accused.

Accused arrested immediately

Chitte lodged d a complaint with the police. Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar took cognisance of the complaint and ordered strict action. Subsequently, a case was registered at Jawaharnagar Police Station against Vishnu Nangude, his driver Ramesh Shinde, and a third accomplice under the following BNS sections: 309-4, 126, 352, 351-2, 324-2 and 3-5 . PSI Maroti Khillare swiftly tracked them down and arrested Nangude and Shinde. The court remanded them to police custody until April 24.

Recruited in 2021, already suspended

Nangude joined the police force in 2021. He runs a police recruitment coaching institute called "Sai Academy." Sources from the Superintendent's office confirmed that he had already been suspended previously for being continuously absent from duty and for running a private institution while in government service.
