Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

On the auspicious occasion of Padwa, water will be released into the state-of-the-art jackwell (water intake well) built at Jayakwadi dam at a cost of nearly Rs 100 crore. The water will be stored in the jackwell for two to three days to check for any leakage. If no leakage is found, water will then be used to clean the main pipeline. However, citizens will have to wait a few more days to receive additional water supply.

Work on the new Rs 2,740 crore water supply scheme is underway, aiming to provide an additional 200 MLD in the first phase. As per court approval, water will be taken into the jackwell on March 19. Municipal Commissioner G. Sreekanth inspected the site with Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran officials and instructed necessary precautions. Water will be drawn using the siphon method.

Flood-like situation likely

On March 22, water from the jackwell will be pumped into the pipeline using 3,700 HP pumps. Valves have been installed at 12 locations to flush the pipeline, where water will be released into nearby rivers and streams, possibly creating flood-like situations. Citizens have been urged not to panic.

Demand to utilise 900 mm pipeline fully

The Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran laid a 900 mm pipeline last year, but it is not yet fully operational. The municipal corporation has demanded that the old 700 mm pipeline be shut and the new one be run at full capacity to supply 72–75 MLD water daily.
