A late-night party involving criminal gangs from Mukundwadi and Pundliknagar ended in murder. Rohit alias Karan Maske (25, Rajnagar) was stabbed to death by Akshay Padul and his associates in Shivajinagar around 2.30 am on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit alias Karan Maske (25, Rajnagar) was stabbed to death by Akshay Padul once the mastermind in a fake currency case and his associates. Police sub-inspector Vinod Bhalerao was on patrol when locals informed him of a man lying injured near Mayur Terrace Society. He found Rohit in a pool of blood. His identity was confirmed from a motorcycle nearby. Senior police inspectors Gajanan Kalyankar (crime branch), Nirmala Pardeshi (City Chowk), Ashok Bhandare (Pundliknagar), and sub-inspectors Rajiv Mhatre and Sunil Mhaske also reached the spot. Rohit was taken to government medical college and hospital, where he was declared dead at 3.30 am.

Last conversation at midnight; phone switched off at 1.30 am

Rohit left home at 8 pm on Tuesday, telling his family he was going to fill petrol. At midnight, his mother called he told her he was at a party in Sainagar with Padul, Krishna Udavant, Sagar Ghule, Badshah Shaikh, Prafull Pakhare, and Shoeb Shaikh. At 1.30 am, his phone was switched off. By 4 am, he had not returned. Around 5 am, the family learned of his murder and rushed to government medical college and hospital.

Suspects detained

Padul fled after the murder. By early morning, police detained Krishna Udavant (29), Sagar Ghule (23), Badshah Shaikh (25), Praful Pakhare (23), and Shoeb Shaikh (22), all from Bharatnagar and Pundliknagar.

Murder triggered by old rivalry

The accused had themselves invited Rohit to the party. Months ago, Rohit had stabbed Padul, leaving him bedridden for two months. The issue resurfaced at the party. When Rohit said, "You stayed home for two months after I attacked you don't lecture me," Padul and his associates attacked him with knives, stabbing him in the abdomen, chest, and neck, killing him.
