The coronation day of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was celebrated on Saturday. BJP had highlighted the hoardings mentioning ‘Namesta Sambhajinagar’ at various places in the city. However, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) anti-encroachment department removed all these hoardings. The BJP activists severely protested but in vain. After this action, BJP staged demonstrations at TV Centre Chowk in the afternoon.
In the backdrop of the upcoming AMC election, all the political parties have drafted strategies. BJP is emphasizing to rename the city as Sambhajinagar. BJP when was sharing power with Shiv Sena had forgotten about the renaming of the city. Now, the demand has been raised again to change the name of Aurangabad city to corner Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. As environment minister, Aditya Thackeray was in the city on Saturday, Bhartiya Janta Yuvak Morcha (BJYM) taking advantage of this opportunity erected a hoarding mentioning ‘Nameste Sambhajinagar’ opposite the hoarding of ‘Super Sambhajinagar’ at TV Centre Chowk on Friday night. However, AMC removed it. BJP then decided to stage demonstrations to protest against the action of removing the hoarding. However, the police refused permission for it, but the agitators took firm stand to stage demonstrations. Hence, tension prevailed for some time at TV Centre Chowk. BJP activists staged demonstrations condemning AMC despite strict police bandobast. MP Dr Bhagwat Karad, MLA Atul Save, City unit chief Sanjay Kenekar led the agitation while former corporators Raju Shinde, Pramod Rathod, Jagdish Siddh, Rameshwar Bhadwe, Anil Makariye, Rajgaurav Wankhede, Adv Madhuri Adwant, Savita Kulkarni, Manisha Bhansali and others were present.
