Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Taking advantage of rising incidents of crime in the city, fraudsters devised a new tactic to carry out a robbery in broad daylight. Two men posing as police officers robbed 50-year-old Omprakash Bhutada of 4.4 tolas of gold jewellery on Railway Station Road on April 26 at around 12.30 pm.

The incident occurred in front of the Forest Department office Bhutada, who resides in the Himayat Bagh area with his family, was walking from Akashvani towards the railway station to book a ticket to Hyderabad when he was stopped by two unidentified men near the forest department wall. Claiming to be police personnel, they began questioning him aggressively.

The accused told him that a murder had taken place at Kranti Chowk and that he was under suspicion. On the pretext of conducting a body search, they intimidated and confused him. During the search, they cleverly removed a 32-gram gold chain from his neck and two gold rings weighing 5 and 6 grams. After telling him he was no longer under suspicion, the two fled on a motorcycle towards Kranti Chowk. Bhutada realised he had been robbed only after they left. He estimated the accused to be between 25 and 30 years of age. A case has been registered at the Vedantnagar police station, and further investigation is underway.
