Thieves breached the tight security of Prozone Mall in the middle of the night, making off with cash and goods worth several lakhs, leaving the police bewildered. One suspect has been taken into custody, and based on a complaint by a store manager, a FIR was registered at MIDC Cidco police station on Tuesday.
According to police reports, around midnight (12 pm) on Monday, the thieves entered the mall from the rear side. They targeted shops numbered 72 and 73, which sell slippers and shoes. Breaking open the counters, they stole ₹4.04 lakh in cash. They then entered a salon, taking ₹2.61 lakh in cash and a laptop, making the total loot ₹6.66 lakh. On their way out, they also broke into a café counter, stealing nearly ₹20,000 in cash and a mobile phone.
At around 3.30 am, a security guard noticed suspicious activity in the mall and gave chase. One suspect was caught, while the others escaped. Police Inspector Geeta Bagwade and API Bharat Pachole inspected the scene. The case was registered following a complaint by store manager Sunil Kate.
Three-hour heist: shutters and doors broken
Despite the dead calm in the mall at night, the gang spent nearly three hours looting, taking cash and goods. Along with cash, they stole clothes and slippers worth around ₹29,000, police said. Bagwade said the search for the suspect’s accomplices is ongoing and assured that the case would be solved soon.
