Thieves broke into a house in Pawannagar in the early hours of February 8 by cutting the latch of the main door and escaped with around 23 tolas of gold and Rs 50,000 in cash within 25 minutes. A case has been registered at the Cidco police station.

The house belongs to Dhanasing Vinayak Tomar (62), a field officer with a private security firm. He and his wife had left for Jamner on February 7 to attend their niece’s wedding. At around 5 am on February 8, neighbour Sunil Adhav noticed the door open and lights on, and alerted Tomar, confirming the burglary.

Cidco police inspector Atul Yerme, assistant police inspector Yogesh Gaikwad and sub-inspector Nivrutti Gayake inspected the spot. The two-storey house was ransacked, with iron and wooden cupboards broken open. Preliminary investigation indicates the involvement of two thieves, who loitered in the area before cutting the latch at 3.58 am, removing the lock and entering the house. They stayed inside for 25–30 minutes and were captured on CCTV while leaving at 4.25 am. The broken lock was taken away, a common tactic of habitual burglars.
