Thousands of Maratha community members, including women, from the district are set to participate in the state-level meeting called by Maratha reservation movement leader Manoj Jarange Patil at Antarwali Sarati on Saturday to decide the future course of the agitation.

Preparatory meetings have been held over the past week in various city localities and villages across rural areas. The meeting comes amid complaints that despite Kunbi records being traced for thousands of Maratha families following the implementation of the Hyderabad Gazetteer, eligible families are still facing difficulties in obtaining OBC caste certificates. Many applicants have alleged that they are being forced to make repeated visits to tehsildar and sub-divisional offices without getting caste validity certificates. Against this backdrop, Jarange has convened the meeting on May 16 to discuss the next phase of the movement. Around 50 four-wheelers have been arranged from Phulambri tehsil alone, while more than 100 vehicles from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city are expected to travel to Antarwali Sarati for the gathering.
