Police have put in place elaborate security arrangements for the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Around 150 officers and 1,427 personnel will be deployed for 18 hours to maintain law and order, while a 25-member team will monitor social media for objectionable posts.
The city has been witnessing cultural and social programmes for a month. The main procession will begin at 4 pm from Kranti Chowk. Tributes will be paid to 102 statues, four major and nearly 240 smaller processions will be taken out, and public idol worship will be held at 156 locations. At Kranti Chowk, 11 officers and 350 personnel will be stationed. Overall, 219 armed personnel will guard 72 fixed points, including sensitive spots. Five drones will monitor the events, with additional mobile patrolling teams deployed across routes. Several key roads, including stretches from Mill Corner to City Club, Mahavir Chowk to Amrapreet Chowk, and Kranti Chowk to Bhadkal Gate, will remain closed till midnight. Traffic on select Cidco and Hudco routes will be diverted or made one-way until the processions conclude.
