A wholesale Farsan and mango trader, Atish Harinarayan Rathi (44), allegedly died by suicide at his shop in Jadhavwadi after closing the shutter from inside. The shocking incident came to light around 11 am on Monday.
Rathi, a resident of Surananagar, ran a business dealing in Farsan and various types of Chivda and also sold mangoes during the summer. He owned a shop in a shopping centre at Jadhavwadi. As per his routine, he used to visit Mondha market early in the morning to unload goods and usually returned home around 10 to 11 am for lunch.
On Monday, after speaking with his wife, he left for the shop as usual. Around 11 am, a friend visited the shop and found Rathi hanging after lifting the shutter.
His brother Pradeep Rathi, relatives and Bharatiya Railway Sena president Santoshkumar Somani rushed to the spot. Assistant police inspector Yogesh Gaikwad from Cidco police station also reached the scene. Rathi was taken to hospital but was declared dead.
Known for his friendly nature, Rathi was well-liked among workers and traders at Mondha market. His mother passed away seven months ago. He is survived by his wife, three children aged 17, 12 and 7, and his brother. Cidco police are investigating the reason behind the suicide.
