Rs 2.88 crore cheating case registered; local police accused of non-cooperation

Three Rajkot-based trader brothers allegedly duped city jeweller Atish Sawaiwala (46), Kasari Bazar, of 201 tolas (2,018.89 grams) of gold, along with silver and copper, worth Rs 2.88 crore, by offering jewellery manufacturing at 1.5% labour charges instead of the usual 3%.

The accused have been identified as Jaideep, Vishal and Kalpesh Jijunvadiga of Rajkot claimed their firm Bhakti Ornaments had major company tie-ups. Given business transactions of Rs 8-10 crore over the past decade, Sawaiwala trusted them and handed over the material on January 26, 2026. They later all0egedly avoided contact.

Accused’s wife allegedly threatens false case

After 25 days without response, Sawaiwala visited Rajkot on February 24. The accused claimed artisans had stolen the gold. When he sought legal action, Vishal’s wife allegedly accused him of attempted kidnapping and threatened a false complaint.

Alleged intimidation in Rajkot; police accused of inaction

Sawaiwala then approached a local police station, where 15–20 associates of the accused allegedly gathered, surrounded him and issued death threats if he did not leave the Gujarat border area. He has alleged that local police did not assist him and instead asked him to leave. Later, the accused allegedly warned him he would not return to Maharashtra alive if he revisited Rajkot.
