Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Traffic came to a halt at the Shivajinagar underpass on Wednesday around 1 pm after a hyva truck got stuck, triggering a jam that lasted nearly 1 to 1.5 hours.
Long queues formed on both sides, with motorists enduring the peak afternoon heat. As previously reported by Lokmat Times, the issue has been aggravated by alleged negligence of traffic police at Deolai chowk, leading to frequent congestion. The stranded vehicle at Deolai chowk was removed after considerable effort, and traffic normalised after over an hour. Several motorists reversed their vehicles and took alternate routes. A few days earlier, a taller iron height barrier was installed overnight on the Shivajinagar side, though it remains unclear who erected it. As it is higher than the barrier at Deolai chowk, heavy vehicles pass from Shivajinagar but get stuck at Deolai. Around 5.45 pm, a workers’ bus also got stuck at Deolai, damaging its upper metal sheet. Currently, only one four-wheeler along with a two-wheeler can pass at a time. Simultaneous movement from both sides further worsens congestion. The Public Works Department has begun constructing a 3.4-metre arch at Shivajinagar after demolishing the old barricade and digging a trench. While the service road on the Shivajinagar side was completed on May 4, the Deolai-side service road remains unfinished.
