Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A truck lost control on the Samruddhi Highway in Vaijapur tehsil on Wednesday morning after the driver fell asleep, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a pole.

The driver, Jaymal Judasma (45) and his assistant Altaf Sumra (40, Gujarat) were both seriously injured in the accident, which occurred at around 10 AM on Wednesday. A truck (GJ 03 BY 8485) was travelling from Mumbai to Bengaluru loaded with goods via the Samruddhi Highway.

The driver dozed off, causing the truck to go off the road at around 10 AM, and slam into a pole, leaving both the driver and assistant critically injured.

Upon receiving information, PSI Chavan, Security Supervisor Krishna Bade, Gajanan Tayde, Shivaji Bele and Garad rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the Sub-District Hospital.

It is believed that the accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Shillegaon Police and Samruddhi Highway security personnel assisted in the rescue operation.
