Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: There appears to be an intense tug of war within the BJP for the post of coopted member in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC).

As many as 170 individuals applied to the party for the post of nominated member. Around 80 of them had rebelled after failing to get a ticket in the CSMC elections.

Party leaders had promised all of them that they would be made co-opted members and given positions on various government committees. As a result, many have been lobbying leaders in Delhi, Mumbai, and at the local level to secure the member post. It is still not clear as who will get the opportunity for this position.

Meanwhile, Monday, March 30, is the last deadline to file applications for this post. BJP has 57 corporators and Shinde Sena has 13 corporators in the Municipal Corporation.

BJP is set to receive five coopted member seats, while Shinde Sena will get one coopted member seat. Shinde Sena will also be submitting applications on March 3, and it was stated that the final decision will be taken after scrutiny of the applications.

Meanwhile, the Uddhav Sena has not yet made a decision. “Applications will be submitted on March 30, after which the party will decide who to give the opportunity,” said Ambadas Danve, Uddhav Sena's District Chief.

Appropriate names to be forwarded by party

The names of 170 individuals were sent to the State Committee. After review, the committee has forwarded 15 names from that list to the local Core Committee. All of them have been asked to file applications. After scrutiny of the applications, the party's group leader in the Corporation will suggest five names from the party at the general meeting. Care will be taken to ensure that the right names go forward from the party.
