Two arrested in Bunty Jahagirdar murder case

A local crime branch squad of the district police arrested two persons in Shirdi on late Wednesday night on suspicion of murdering Bunty Jahagirdar by shooting him at in Shrirampur, Alhiyanagar, at 2.50 pm on Wednesday and recovered a pistol from them.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Krishna Arun Shingare (23) and Ravindra Gautam Nikalje (20, both residents of Shrirampur). Inspector of the local police station, Nitin Deshmukh, said that they are labourers by occupation and are being grilled to know whether they are associated with any criminal gang or not. Krishna and Ravindra reached Shirdi after accomplishing their task and were in a bid to flee the holy town when police pounced on them late at night. They are notorious troublemakers in Shrirampur. However, the motive and mastermind of the murder are not clear yet, PI Deshmukh added.

Action against rumour mongers

A case, bearing Crime No. 01/26, has been registered at the Shrirampur (city) police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act (BNS). The police are investigating the source of the weapons and other aspects of the murder. The police have warned of strict action against anyone found mongering rumours or provocative content on social media.

About the murder

Notorious criminal Aslam, alias Bunty Jahagirdar, was shot at by two unidentified men in front of a hospital on Wednesday afternoon. He was returning home riding pillion of a scooter after attending a burial when he was targeted. He sustained serious bullet injuries and was first admitted to a local hospital and then to another at Ahilyanagar, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The murder spread panic and tension in the town. The police have enhanced security arrangements in the wake of the tension. Bunty’s kin demanded the arrest of the killers and refused to accept the body. However, following the arrest of the two, they accepted the body and buried it in the town on Thursday afternoon.

Two bullets removed, three remain

His body had been hit by five bullets; three remained lodged and two were removed during the autopsy. The family had refused autopsy in Ahilyanagar and requested an in-camera autopsy at the hospital. The body was brought to GMCH around 9.30 pm on Wednesday, and the procedure was conducted after a late-night post-mortem report, with a large police deployment in place.
