Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In separate incidents, two persons committed suicide by hanging themselves, in Sillod and Dhorkin of the district, in the last 24 hours.

In the first incident, an agriculture assistant Yogesh Shivram Sonawane (40, temporary resident of Shivajinagar in Sillod) ended his life in the office of the tehsil agriculture officer in Sillod on Thursday between 8.30 am and 9 am. In the second incident, a youth Waseem Jabbar Qureshi (25) hanged himself to the ceiling of a room on the first floor of his house on Wednesday night.

According to details, the agriculture assistant claimed that the harassment meted out by his seniors on duty became intolerable. Hence to get rid of it, he committed suicide in the office. Acting upon the complaint of the deceased’s wife, the police booked tehsil agriculture officer Dnyaneshwar Shyamlal Barde, and agriculture assistant Kishore Uttamrao Borade, on Thursday evening.

The complainant Vimal Yogesh Sonawane stated that both Barde and Borade were insulting her husband by calling in the office on the holidays and giving him additional burden of work. On Thursday also, her husband reached the office early in the morning on the orders of Barde. He opened the office and ended his life in the cabin by hanging with rope. Hence both Barde and Borade are responsible for the death of my husband, she stated in the complaint.

Meanwhile, the police reached the office and shifted Yogesh to the sub-district hospital in Sillod. However, the medical officer on duty declared him dead on examination. The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. The deceased is survived by a family comprising a father, a wife and a daughter.

A case has been registered against Barde and Borade at the urban police station in Sillod. Under the guidance of police inspector Sheshrao Udar, further investigation is on by PSI D R Kayade.

I had not harassed him

Dnyaneshwar Barde said, “The said employee was very loyal and there was no dispute with him. I had not harassed him. I am unable to say why he committed suicide, but he was debt-ridden. Hence he may have ended his life. I am dragged into the case for no reason.”

In the second incident, the family members of Waseem Qureshi came to know about the suicide on February 19 night. He was rushed to the Bidkin hospital, where the medical officer declared him dead on examination. The last rites upon him were performed on Thursday afternoon. He is survived by his parents, a wife and an extended family. The reason behind taking the extreme step has not been ascertained. Paithan MIDC police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on.
