Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The cyber police have registered two more cases over controversial social media posts, according to PI Shivcharan Pandhare. The cases have been filed at Kranti Chowk and City Chowk police stations.

The controversy surrounding Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khultabad has sparked tensions across the state. Following riots in Nagpur, the Home Department has intensified its vigilance. However, authorities have noted that social media has been fueling tensions more than actual on-ground conflicts. As a result, cyber police stations across all cities and districts have been ordered to closely monitor social media activity through dedicated desks. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the cyber police are conducting round-the-clock surveillance using specialized technology and hashtag tracking to identify inflammatory content. So far, eight cases had been registered, with two more added on Friday.

Death threats amid online clashes

An Instagram page reportedly posted 8-10 reels in support of Aurangzeb’s tomb, leading to a heated exchange in the comments section. The situation escalated as two groups engaged in verbal abuse and threats, with one overenthusiastic page administrator allegedly making objectionable remarks. Upon detecting the issue, the cyber police took action. A case was filed against Arman Qureshi (20) from Sillekhana at Kranti Chowk Police Station, while another case was registered against a youth named Muneed at City Chowk Police Station.
