Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Two trucks were involved in an unusual accident in the Ajanta Ghat section on the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Jalgaon highway at around 6 pm on Wednesday. The mishap occurred after one of the trucks reportedly suffered a brake failure and rammed into another truck from behind. The accident led to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the ghat, bringing traffic to a complete standstill for nearly three hours.

According to available information, the trucks bearing registration numbers GJ 12 BT 5284 and HP 12 P 7695 were travelling towards Jalgaon with goods. While descending the ghat, one truck’s brakes suddenly failed, causing it to crash into the vehicle ahead. As both trucks got stuck in the middle of the road, traffic movement in the ghat was severely disrupted.

The congestion caused major inconvenience to passengers, tourists and ambulance services. Owing to the night-time darkness in the ghat section, an atmosphere of anxiety prevailed among commuters. Some motorists diverted their vehicles via the Soygaon–Halda route to avoid the jam.

Upon receiving information, personnel from Fardapur Police Station, including Santosh Ubale, rushed to the spot and made strenuous efforts to clear the obstruction. After nearly three hours, at around 9 pm, police managed to move the trucks aside. Traffic was then restored partially from one side.
