A two-year-old boy,died after being bitten by a cobra on Sunday night, leaving the village in mourning.

The deceased has been identified as Shambhu Dnyaneshwar Dandge (2), originally from Varud and residing in Kumbhephal.

The incident occurred while the child was playing on the staircase of his house when the snake bit his right leg. He began crying immediately, and his mother noticed bleeding before his condition deteriorated rapidly. The family rushed him to the Primary Health Centre at Karmad, where doctors declared him critical and advised shifting to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, but he died en route.

Shambhu was the family’s first child and had a younger sister. The tragedy has left the family devastated, with villagers offering condolences.

Need for precaution

Officials and experts urged caution, noting that snakebite cases increase in summer and advising clean surroundings and removal of waste to prevent rodent and frog infestation. Snake rescuer Manoj Gaikwad said the snake was safely captured and released into Shendra forest under the guidance of forest department personnel.
