Kaygaon:

Body of an unidentified elderly woman, around 55 years old, was found floating in the Godavari riverbed near old kaygaon on Monday (January 19) at around 9.30 am.

After the body was spotted floating in the water, local villagers informed the Gangapur police. Ambulance staff Shubham Waghmare, Pankaj Birute, Chetan Pandit and Amol Birute reached the spot and, with the help of local residents, retrieved the body from the river.

As the body was in a decomposed condition, police have estimated that the woman may have died at least four days earlier. To establish her identity, the body will be kept in the mortuary of the sub-district hospital at Gangapur, police said. An accidental death case has been registered at Gangapur police station, and further investigation is being carried out by police constable Vitthal Jadhav.
