‘Vidyut Strike’ against power thieves in Marathwada; electricity theft worth Rs 14 crore exposed

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar regional office of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) conducted a special crackdown against power theft across Marathwada between April 2025 and December 31, 2025, spanning a period of nine months. During this drive, 3,799 electricity meters were inspected and checked for irregularities. Of these, 1,727 meters were found involved in power theft or other violations.

In these cases, an estimated penalty amount of Rs 14 crore 47 lakh 18 thousand was levied as electricity bill charges, of which Rs 8 crore 80 lakh 14 thousand has been recovered so far. Criminal cases have been registered against 55 power thieves. As the ‘Vidyut Strike’ campaign against electricity theft continues across Marathwada, power thieves are reportedly on the back foot. MSEDCL has stated that the drive to detect power theft will continue in the future as well. Deputy managing director Aditya Jiwane of the MSEDCL Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar regional office, has appealed to electricity consumers to obtain authorised power connections.
