On the first day of Valentine Week, Rose Day painted the city in shades of pink, with markets resembling blooming rose gardens. From Gen Z youngsters to married couples, people across age groups bought roses for their partners, strengthening emotional bonds.
Along with natural roses, artistically crafted varieties drew strong demand this year. Besides red, yellow, white and especially pink roses were widely sold, while those wishing to preserve their love opted for golden and artificial roses. Local vendors introduced new designs, with the ‘Korean paper glitter rose’ emerging as the main attraction.

Artificial roses:
• Light-up rose – Rs 400
• Pink rose with teddy – Rs 220
• Golden rose – Rs 180

• Glitter rose – Rs 120
• Regular roses – Rs 20 to Rs 60
• Pink rose – Rs 80

“Customers always want something new. That’s why I created these special glitter roses, which are getting a strong response from the youth,” said Raj Sarkar, a vendor. Sales remained brisk, with several shops selling over 100 roses by noon. By evening, sales crossed 500 at some places and ran into the thousands at others, as even middle-class couples exchanged roses, reviving old memories across the city.
