Aurangabad, Oct 31:

The police busted a racket of stealing diesel and petrol from the Hindustan Petroleum Company Ltd (HPCL) tankers, three days back. However, only the unimportant persons were arrested in this connection while the suspense over the kingpin of the racket still continues.

The police arrested five accused of stealing petrol and diesel from the HPCL tankers and a customer at Jambhala Shivar on Wednesday. Meanwhile, there have been talks in the city that the racket''s mastermind is a corporator from the city. He had contacts with the police and is involved in many illegal activities for the past many years. He is a well-known figure in the Gutkha and Kerosene black-market. He has a system that the police should not reach him if any raids are conducted. The accused arrested during the raid are from his area, but he gave the police the wrong address.

In a similar incident, the police raided a godown and seized rationing food grains. However, the real accused did not come to the fore even then. The mastermind of the fuel theft racket was be unveiled if the police investigate in the right direction.
