Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Unable to bear the shock of her husband’s sudden demise, a wife also passed away within a few hours in a heart-rending incident reported from Kerhala village in Sillod tehsil. The deceased couple have been identified as Raosaheb Amruta Pandhare (65) and his wife Ratnakalabai Raosaheb Pandhare (60).

The couple had shared nearly four decades of married life, standing firmly by each other through life’s ups and downs. Raosaheb, a resident of Kerhala, had been suffering from asthma. On Thursday night (January 29), his health suddenly deteriorated. While family members were rushing him to the hospital for treatment, he passed away on the way. Doctors later declared him dead.

His mortal remains were brought home, and upon seeing her husband’s body, Ratnakalabai suffered a severe shock and collapsed. She was immediately admitted to the sub-district hospital in Sillod. As her condition was critical, she was referred to Government Medical College Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Doctors revealed that due to extreme emotional stress following her husband’s death, she suffered a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain, leading to internal bleeding. As the blood clotted, she slipped into a coma.

Raosaheb’s last rites were performed on Friday afternoon. Even before the ashes of her husband’s pyre had cooled, Ratnakalabai breathed her last at around 10 am on Saturday. The news that death had separated the devoted couple within a span of hours left the villagers deeply moved.

Ratnakalabai’s last rites were performed on Saturday afternoon. The couple is survived by a son, two daughters, sons-in-law and an extended family.
