With rising morning temperatures, people are heavily relying on coolers, air conditioners, and fans to beat the heat. This has significantly increased electricity consumption, causing power meters to run faster.

Amidst this, citizens are questioning whether the power supply will remain stable during the summer or if frequent outages will make life unbearable.

Due to the increased electricity demand during summer, MSEDCL’s distribution system experiences immense pressure. In some areas, excessive load on power lines leads to sudden supply interruptions. To ensure a stable power supply in the coming days, additional planning is required, according to MSEDCL officials. They have also urged citizens to use electricity wisely.

Rising heat and electricity tariffs causing worries

With fans, ACs, and coolers running at full capacity due to soaring temperatures, household electricity meters are spinning rapidly. This is reflecting in higher electricity bills, leaving citizens concerned about rising power costs.

Is load shedding being implemented in the city?

Currently, there is no load shedding in the city. However, due to faults and increased power demand, some areas are facing technical difficulties, leading to sudden power outages.

More load shedding in high power loss areas

Areas with higher power losses (line loss) are more likely to experience load shedding. Unauthorized electricity connections in such areas often lead to technical faults, resulting in power disruptions for local residents.

If this is the situation now, what lies ahead?

With temperatures expected to rise further in April and May, electricity demand will increase even more. Consequently, unexpected power outages may occur in the city.

What changes from April 1?

New electricity tariffs will come into effect from April 1, potentially leading to higher bills for consumers. In response to the increasing demand for electricity, measures are being planned to ensure a stable power supply.

No load shedding for now

Currently, there is no load shedding anywhere in the state. The e-public hearing on MSEDCL’s tariff petition at all six revenue headquarters in Maharashtra has recently concluded. The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission’s decision on tariff revisions is awaited, and new rates may be implemented from April 1, as per MSEDCL.
