Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

MLC Satish Chavan on Monday demanded in the Legislative Council the immediate release of Rs 78 crore to complete the 400-bed women and neonatal hospital in the Doodh Dairy area.

The project, approved in 2013 to ease the burden on the obstetrics and gynecology department at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), was initially sanctioned Rs 111 crore, later revised to Rs 189 crore. However, non-release of the additional Rs 78 crore has stalled construction.

Poposal pending for a year

The concerned department had submitted a proposal for the additional Rs 78 crore to the government a year ago. However, no action has been taken so far. Chavan has strongly urged the government to immediately release the funds to ensure the completion and functioning of the women and neonatal hospital in the city.
