Aurangabad, May 20:

The repair work of the truck terminal in Waluj is in the final stage. The truck drivers and cleaners will get various facilities at this place after the work gets completed. MIDC has spent Rs 5.35 crore on the work of the truck terminal.

MIDC had constructed the truck terminal at Kamgar Chowk in Waluj MIDC 25 years ago on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. However, due to its poor condition, truck drivers had to face many difficulties during the rainy season. Transporters had approached MIDC demanding repairing and updating the facilities at the terminal. Shiv Sangram party had gone on a hunger strike six years ago demanding health services for drivers, installation of CCTV cameras and repair of terminals. MIDC had sanctioned Rs 5.36 crore for repair work. But actual work started five months ago. Since then, the work of the 110 meters long and 125 meters wide concrete flooring for parking of 150 heavy vehicles and protective wall has been completed. Work is underway on a 15 meter concrete road from the main road to the truck terminal for heavy vehicles to come and go in the terminal. The truck terminal will have five shops. There will be health check-ups for truck drivers as well as cleaners, rest halls, toilets, bathrooms, canteens and garages. Two high masts and eight to ten CCTV cameras will be installed at the truck terminal to prevent theft of vehicles and goods. MIDC assistant engineer Ganesh Mulikar said that the work of the truck terminal will be completed in the next one or two months.
