A Yemeni national, Mohammed Ahmed Ali Binashikhbubkar (32), was taken into custody by the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) on February 10 for illegally staying in India after his visa expired and attempting admission at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

His landlord, Sheikh Naser Sheikh Ajgal Ali (58, Jaysingpura), has been booked at Begumpura police station for renting him accommodation and concealing the information. Ahmed entered India on a student visa in October 2014, stayed in Bengaluru until 2017, and continued living illegally after its expiry. He later stayed in Jaysingpura on Rs 2,200 monthly rent and was in contact with foreign nationals, sources said. Intelligence inputs led to his detention under the instructions of police commissioner Praveen Pawar and deputy commissioner Ratnakar Navale. Police said the landlord neither executed a rental agreement nor informed authorities, which is mandatory. Based on inspector Rajesh Mayekar’s complaint, a case was registered under Sections 23(b), 45 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police sub inspector Maroti Madevad is investigating.
