On suspicion of bike theft, two police personnel brutally beat a young man with sticks, kicks, and punches.
On January 21 at around 12.30 am, 32-year-old Akshay Thokle(Mukundwadi), was brutally assaulted by police constables Ganesh Wagh and Santosh Birare on suspicion of bike theft.
Akshay and his friend Bhausaheb More had gone to the Mukundwadi bus stop to smoke when the officers questioned them. Despite Akshay providing documents proving the bike belonged to his friend Shubham Jadhav from Buldhana, a dispute arose. The constables reportedly beat Akshay with sticks, kicks, and punches, targeting his knees, back, and neck until the sticks broke. Even after he fell, he was kicked in the stomach and chest, while Bhausaheb was also assaulted when he tried to intervene. For two days, Mukundwadi police attempted to suppress the matter, but CCTV footage went viral, exposing the brutality. Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar, along with DCP Prashant Swami and ACP Manish Kalyankar, visited the station, met Akshay and his family, and assured strict action. Based on Akshay’s complaint, a case was registered, and both constables were promptly suspended. Residents voiced concern over unchecked criminal activity in areas like Rajnagar, Shivajinagar, Ramnagar, and Mukundwadi railway station, while ordinary citizens face excessive policing elsewhere, causing public frustration.
