In an attack stemming from an old dispute, two brothers and a local goon allegedly assaulted Akash Gawale of Anandnagar by striking his head with a thick iron rod on February 14, leaving him critically injured.

After his condition stabilised, Pundaliknagar police arrested Nikhil Anil Borade and Shubham Anil Borade on February 18 based on his statement. Police said Akash and the accused had ongoing disputes. On the night of the incident, they intercepted him in the locality, hit his head with an iron rod, allegedly shouted “Kill him today,” and fled when residents gathered. Akash fell unconscious and was rushed to hospital. A case of attempt to murder has been registered. Police inspector Ashok Bhandare said both accused have prior criminal records at Kranti Chowk and City Chowk police stations. The probe is being led by police sub-inspector Reshim Kolekar.
