The process of selecting members for the subject committees of the zilla parishad has reached its final stage, and the selections will be formalised at a special general meeting on April 15. As per rules, the process must be completed within a month of electing the president and vice-president, prompting the administration to expedite proceedings.

The ZP general election was held on February 5, with results declared on February 9. Elections for the president and vice-president took place on March 18, and committee chairpersons were elected on April 2. According to ZP regulations, a general meeting must be held within a month of selecting the president and vice-president to finalise committee members. This year, 63 members have been elected to the body.

Committee structures: The chairperson of a standing committee is the president, the secretary is the chief executive officer (CEO), and chairpersons of the panchayat committees are ex-officio members. Eight ZP members will be selected, apart from 83 members on different committees including Water Management (6), Agriculture (10), Social Welfare (11), Education (8), Public Works (8), Finance (8), Health (8), Animal Husbandry (8), and Women & Child Welfare (8).

Structured seat allocation

Elections for the committee chairpersons were held on April 2, with Balaji Sontakke, Meenakshi Pawar, Sachin Gard, and Anita Mothe emerging victorious. Currently, the chairpersonship of the Social Welfare Committee has been officially declared for Balaji Sontakke and Women & Child Welfare Committee for Meenakshi Pawar. However, the full allocation of all committee chairpersons’ positions will be finalised at the special general meeting on April 15.
