New Delhi [India], March 31: In the wake of rising cyber fraud incidents across Mumbai, a proactive step was taken by the BJP Professional Cell to strengthen coordination between citizens and law enforcement agencies. Acting under the guidance of Hon'ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and with the support of Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar and Mumbai BJP President Amit Satam, a delegation of professionals met with senior cyber police officials to address the growing concern.
The delegation of the BJP Professional Cell team, led by Shailesh R Ghedia and Anil Sharma, along with Mahesh Bhambwani, held a detailed interaction with DCP Cyber Shri Karad. The meeting focused on identifying actionable strategies to effectively trap cyber fraudsters and enhance the recovery process for defrauded funds—an area that continues to challenge victims of digital crime.
During the discussion, Shri Karad elaborated on the rigorous and evolving measures being implemented by the Cyber Police Department. He emphasized that authorities are actively working on strengthening technological capabilities and response systems to ensure that fraudsters are tracked swiftly and brought to justice. He also highlighted upcoming initiatives aimed at minimising cyber fraud incidents, indicating a more preventive approach in the near future.
A key point stressed by the Cyber Police was the importance of immediate reporting. Citizens were advised to dial the national cyber helpline 1930 within 2–3 minutes of falling victim to fraud, as this significantly improves the chances of freezing transactions and recovering the lost money. Additionally, strict caution was issued against downloading suspicious links, particularly files with .APK extensions, which are often used by fraudsters to infiltrate devices and extract sensitive financial data.
The BJP Professional Cell also urged the police department to intensify public awareness campaigns through various media platforms. The delegation highlighted that while enforcement mechanisms are crucial, sustained awareness remains the first line of defense in preventing such crimes.
Speaking to the correspondent after the meeting, Mahesh Bhambwani, Media Secretary, BJP Professional cell, stressed that cyber safety must become a collective responsibility. He noted that Mumbai, as a leading financial and digital hub, must come together—citizens, institutions, and authorities alike—to build continuous awareness and vigilance. “Only through consistent education and unity can we stay ahead of cyber threats,” he remarked, underlining the need for a city-wide movement towards digital security.
