His film Karmayogi Abasaheb, based on the life of late Ganpatrao alias Abasaheb Deshmukh – leader of the Peasants and Workers Party, MLA, and former minister – has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema.
