Equity indices remain range-bound, Tata Motors top gainer

Equity benchmark indices ended flat on Tuesday after initial spurt on the back of positive global cues as trading remained range-bound during most of the session.

Equity benchmark indices ended flat on Tuesday after initial spurt on the back of positive global cues as trading remained range-bound during most of the session.

The BSE S&P Sensex closed 45 points or 0.12 per cent at 38,844 while the Nifty 50 gained by 6 points or 0.05 per cent at 11,472.

Sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were mixed with Nifty PSU bank gaining by 1.3 per cent, private bank and financial service by 0.9 per cent each and auto by 0.4 per cent. Nifty realty slipped by 2.1 per cent.

Among stocks, Tata Motors accelerated by 5.3 per cent to Rs 127.65 per share while Eicher Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra gained by 2.2 per cent and 1.6 per cent respectively.

Bajaj Finance ticked up by 4.7 per cent and Bajaj Finserv by 1.8 per cent while State Bank of India added gains of 3.4 per cent, IndusInd Bank of 1.8 per cent and ICICI Bank of 1.3 per cent.

However, those which lost were GAIL, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's, Tata Steel, Nestle India and Ad Ports.

Meanwhile, Asia's stock markets were mostly higher as investors cheered signs of progress in US-China trade negotiations and following a fresh Wall Street rally.

Japan's Nikkei traded 1.35 per cent higher but the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong slipped by 0.26 per cent while the Shanghai Composite was also down by 0.36 per cent.
