New Delhi [India], July 29: GD Goenka University, one of the eminent educational institutions in the country, is delighted to announce that Dr Divya Jain, a distinguished PhD scholar from the University, will be joining the Indian Olympic Association's medical team for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Dr Jain, the Head of Psychological services for the Fortis National Mental Health Program, will work alongside renowned psychiatrist Dr Samir Parikh to focus on the mental well-being of Indian athletes participating in the games.

Detailing her role in the Paris 2024 Olympics, Dr Jain said,"I travelled to SAI centres and NIS Patiala since it's important that athletes know us by name and face so they aren't sitting down with someone they have never met before in Paris. There is going to be a medical room where we will be available, and if the need arises, we will also travel to the venues.''

Her appointment marks a momentous milestone in offering comprehensive support to athletes, emphasising their performance enhancement and overall mental well-being. This decision comes amid the rising global awareness of mental health, especially after the COVID-19 outbreak affected the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Expressing his enthusiasm about Dr Jain's appointment in the Indian Olympic Association's Medical Team, Mr Nipun Goenka, Managing Director, GD Goenka Group, said,"We are immensely proud of Divya Jain's accomplishments and her dedication to promoting mental health support in the field of sports. Her expertise and appointment are a testament to GD Goenka University's endeavours to emphasise the mental well-being of students and communities. We are confident that her contributions will make a significant impact in the Paris 2024 Olympics.''

During the pandemic, Dr Jain played a crucial role in supporting athletes via virtual sessions as they encountered unprecedented challenges. Her work underlined the significant need for mental health support in sports, which is now being addressed through her current role with the Indian Olympic Association.
