New Delhi [India], March 31: Kochi is about to witness something new, exciting, and long overdue. On April 18 and 19, 2026, Kerala will host its biggest pickleball tournament so far, the Kerala Open 2026, at RallyLabs. For a sport that has been quietly growing across India, this feels like a real moment.

This is not just another local event. The Kerala Open is officially sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, which means it carries real weight. It also falls under the PWR 400 category, the highest level for state and regional tournaments in India. With a prize pool of ₹5,00,000, it goes beyond the required benchmark, making it one of the most competitive state-level events in the country.

Over two days, players from across India will compete in more than 15 categories. There is something for everyone here. Beginners, amateurs, and professionals will all get a chance to step onto the court. Categories include singles, doubles, and mixed formats, along with different age groups like 35 plus and 50 plus. It is designed to be inclusive but still competitive enough to attract serious talent.

The venue, RallyLabs in Kochi, adds another layer to the experience. It is not just a sports complex, it is built for high performance. With seven dedicated pickleball courts and modern facilities, players can expect a proper tournament environment. From good playing conditions to recovery and training spaces, everything is set up to match national standards. For many players, this will feel like a big step up.

What makes this tournament even more important is its timing. Pickleball in India is finally getting official recognition and structure. The Indian Pickleball Association has been acknowledged as the national federation, and events like this are part of a larger push to build a proper ecosystem for the sport. The Kerala Open is also being positioned as part of the Road to IPBL Series 1, which hints at the bigger plans ahead, including India's first official pickleball league.

For Kerala, this is a big deal. The state has always had a strong sports culture, but pickleball is still new here. Hosting a tournament of this scale puts Kerala on the national map for the sport. It also gives local players a chance to compete without having to travel across the country, which can make a huge difference in participation.

The Pickleball Association of Kerala, along with the IPA, is leading this effort. This is their first major flagship event, and it clearly shows the intent to grow the sport at the grassroots level while also attracting top talent.

At its core, the Kerala Open 2026 is more than just a tournament. It is a sign that pickleball is no longer a niche sport in India. It is growing, getting organized, and slowly building a serious competitive scene.

For players, this is an opportunity. For sports fans, it is something new to watch. And for Kerala, it is the beginning of something bigger.
