New Delhi [India], April 12: Keshav Suri, Executive Director of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, is not only a hospitality mogul but also a force of nature in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights and workplace inclusivity.

Armed with degrees from prestigious institutions such as King's College London, the University of Warwick, and SOAS, Suri's resume is as impressive as his activism is impactful.

However, don't let the polished exterior deceive you—this man isn't solely about luxury hotels and fine dining; he's determined to shake up societal norms and make inclusivity fabulous. Keshav Suri has added yet another feather to his cap by being recognised as the winner in the Society, Policy & Law category at the prestigious India UK Achievers Honours 2025, organised by the National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK (NISAU).

This accolade recognises his remarkable contributions to social justice, equality, and strengthening UK-India relations. Through his efforts, Suri has advanced his business and emerged as a global change maker advocating for a more inclusive and equitable society.

From Boardrooms to Courtrooms: The Battle for Section 377

Suri's journey as an LGBTQIA+ advocate reached a pinnacle when he became one of the petitioners challenging Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalized homosexuality.

His legal battle was not solely about decriminalization, but also about ensuring dignity and equal rights for all sexual orientations. As Keshav Suri stated,

“Decriminalization is just the first step. I want to build an environment where people from all genders and sexualities are treated with equal dignity and rights.”

His activism extended beyond the courtroom. Through the Keshav Suri Foundation, he has advocated for workplace inclusivity by hiring LGBTQIA+ individuals throughout his hotel chain, including transgender employees and acid attack survivors, demonstrating that inclusion isn't just a buzzword; it's a necessity.

Kitty Su: A Nightclub with a Mission

If you thought nightclubs were just about music and drinks, think again. Suri's creation, Kitty Su, is one of India's most iconic nightclubs and a symbol of inclusivity.

It employs differently-abled DJs and members of marginalised communities while hosting events that celebrate queer culture. Kitty Su has become a safe space where diversity flourishes under disco lights.

The Pride Fund: Philanthropy Meets Purpose

In collaboration with Godrej Industries and Dasra, Suri launched The Pride Fund, India's first LGBTQIA+ philanthropy fund, to bridge the funding gap for queer-led organizations.

With over 140 million LGBTQIA+ individuals in India, this initiative seeks to provide grassroots activists with the resources necessary to address healthcare, justice, and livelihood challenges. As Suri eloquently stated,

“Inclusion isn't charity; it's a necessity.”

Workplace Inclusivity: Walking the Talk

Suri has been vocal about fostering inclusive work environments that extend beyond tokenism. His hotels are renowned for their inclusive hiring policies and sensitivity training programs for staff.

He also chairs the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) Diversity & Inclusion Taskforce, encouraging corporate India to embrace diversity.

Why It Matters

India has made significant strides in LGBTQIA+ rights since the decriminalization of homosexuality in 2018, yet challenges persist—from marriage equality to workplace discrimination. Activists like Keshav Suri are addressing these issues and redefining what it means to be an ally.

Through legal battles, philanthropy, and inclusive hiring practices, Suri exemplifies that inclusion can—and should—be woven into the fabric of every institution.

Keshav Suriexemplifies how advocacy can be both glamorous and gritty.

By merging his passion for hospitality with his dedication to social justice, he has created physical and ideological spaces where everyone can thrive. As India progresses toward equality, leaders like Suri remind us that change isn't just possible; it's inevitable.
