New Delhi, April 2 India's largest steelmaking public sector company, Steel Authority of India Limited on Thursday said it recorded best‑ever sales of 20.14 million tonnes (MT) in FY26, up 11.5 per cent over the prior year’s 18.07 million tonnes.

This growth was broad-based, with sales rising across all product categories, the company said.

Crude steel output reached a record 19.43 MT and saleable steel production hit 19.176 MT, surpassing previous records.

The company claimed that supplies to Indian Railways reached a record 1.25 million tonnes, from the Universal Rail Mill, also underscoring the company’s strategic contribution to rail expansion. Exports surged to 2.9 Lakh Tonnes, registering a remarkable 162 per cent growth, with SAIL successfully expanding into new international markets, including Bhutan.

"Operational excellence was further demonstrated through improved efficiency parameters, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable and competitive steelmaking," the statement said.

These achievements reinforce SAIL’s ability to deliver consistent value, strengthen its brand positioning, and expand customer reach across diverse markets, it added.

Further, the state-owned steel maker announced that Krishna Kumar Singh, Director (Personnel), has assumed the additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited on Friday.

The company mentioned his four decades of extensive experience across diverse functions including steel plant operations & maintenance, human resource development, vigilance, and personnel & administration.

As Director (Personnel), Singh has spearheaded the transformation of SAIL’s human resources, introducing progressive employee welfare and development schemes to make the workforce future-ready.

The company had in an earlier statement mentioned its record-breaking performance in January spanning across sales, dispatches, cash collections and customer door-to-door delivery.

The company achieved record dispatches from plants, expanded door delivery volumes and enhanced warehouse sales, underscoring its strong focus on customer-centricity and logistics efficiency while deepening market penetration.
