He also said the company will be foraying into the African market soon as the opportunities are more there.

The city based Va Tech Wabag has won the Rs 1,477 crore contract from Uttar Pradesh government for operation and maintenance of the sewage treatment plants in the two towns.

"We will assess the assets and give our report to the government on the rehabilitation works to be done," Rajneesh Chopra, Global Head-Business Development told reporters here on Friday.

The Va Tech Wabag won the contract towards operation, maintenance and management of the sewage treatment and network management in Agra and Ghaziabad for a period of 10 years extendable by two years on 'one city, one operator' model.

The company will be managing 22 sewage treatment plants and pumping stations and an underground network of about 3,000 km.

According to Chopra, couple of Indian states have come out with their policy on recycle and reuse of waste water.

Chopra said the 'one city, one operator' model will be easier for the government to manage instead of dealing with several small contractors.

He said the company had done such a contract in Istanbul in Turkey.

When queried whether this concept would be workable in big cities with huge population unlike Agra and Ghaziabad, Chopra said the government would divide big cities into different divisions.

According to Chopra, Tamil Nadu is a pioneering state in waste water recycle and reuse activity.

Recently two 45 million litre per day (MLD) each waste water treatment plants by Tamil Nadu government here to cater to the water needs of industrial units.

On the desalination water project operated by Va Tech Wabag here Chopra said the company has increased its production capacity by 10 MLD to 110 MLD through an innovative process.

He said the Tamil Nadu government plans more desalination projects along the coast.

Chopra said the company has a global order book position of about Rs 11,500 crore.
