Abishek Porel produced a fiery knock at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday as he smashed Rajasthan Royals pacer Tushar Deshpande for 23 runs in a single over during the IPL clash between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. Facing Deshpande, the left-handed opener began with a four off a full toss. The second ball took a thick outside edge and raced away to the boundary. The third delivery was on the pads, which Porel flicked over deep square leg for the first six of the matches. Deshpande then tried a slower delivery, but Porel placed it for another four. The fifth ball was met with a strong drive for the fourth four of the over. The only ball that did not go to the boundary was the last, from which Porel took a single.
Deshpande ended the over with figures of 23 runs conceded. The Royals' bowling unit, under early pressure, bounced back with two quick wickets. Archer dismissed Fraser-McGurk in the third over, while Karun Nair was run out for a duck in the next.
Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first. Both teams have made no changes to their playing XIs from the previous match.
Speaking at the toss Sanju Samson said, "We'll bowl first, looks like a good wicket. Gets better in the second half. The results and match conditions have been different. Generally the chasing team wins more often in the IPL. However, we are still early in the tournament so we want to bowl first and get an advantage. It is a competitive league, so we need to look past results sometimes. We decided as a team we need to put in a good performance whatever happens. Same team.
"There will be dew perhaps in the second innings, but now we are ready to bat first and put up a big score. Last game also we did well chasing, just a matter of a couple of overs here and there going in our favour. Need to look past the last game, but it is a learning experience. We discussed in the team meetings how we could have finished the game, we perhaps got too casual in the middle phase. Same team for us as well," Axar Patel said.
